The name was chosen by local school children in memory of John James Webster, a civil engineer from Warrington, who designed and built the old Widnes Transporter Bridge.

My grandfather worked on the original Transporter Bridge and his team were based in Ditton.
Grandad was married two years before the Bridge was completed in 1905.
